Wow! What an incredible last 30 days!
In early January we were visited by our good friend Simone Proietti-Pesci, the chef-owner of the fabulous restaurant le Delizie del Borgo in Bevagna,
a short 10 minute drive from our villa in Umbria. Simone and his partner Marco were making their first visit to the United States and we arranged a series of private dinner parties for them to cook at and entertain in Washington, DC and New York City. For two weeks Simone spread his love of cooking and the pleasures of the table to a group of new-found friends. Check out our Bella Italia website for some photos of the two week adventure.
Then, on Superbowl Sunday we indulged ourselves with a 3 1/2 hour cooking class at the home of DC's most well know chef - Roberto Donna. The owner of the recently reopened Galileo III restaurant, maestro Donna is as much of a gentleman as a master chef. We tried our hands making fresh pasta (fettucine and papardelle), a mushroom sauce and a matriciana sauce, vitello tonnato, polpette napoletane (Neopolitan meatballs stuffed with burrata) and a torta di ricotta e cioccolata. The highlight was making an enormous pasta noodle with the maestro, a ten foot ribbon of pasta that stretched across the kitchen. Check out our video!
The blessed food month came to a fabulous conclusion yesterday with a very special lunch with chef Fabio Trabocchi, the James Beard award winning chef who recently moved back to DC to open Fiola restaurant in Penn Quarter. It was truly a delight to get to know Fabio and to hear his plans for the restaurant, which is scheduled to open in late April or May. Check back for more details about Fiola as the grand opening draws nearer!
Ci vediamo!
